January marked the arrival of a new cohort of student interns at Mersus Technologies. We are delighted to have welcomed students from several Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) campuses, Dublin Institute of Technology (DKIT), Maynooth University, Trinity College Dublin, and international students participating in the Erasmus program. It’s exciting to see our team nearly double in size with these talented newcomers!
Now that they have settled in a bit, let’s look at what our student tech internship opportunities look like: Our interns are engaging in a variety of work experience programs. Students from Trinity College Dublin are contributing to the Software Engineering (SwENG) project. Mersus Technologies has partnered with this project for several years, recognising its immense value for both students and participating companies. Through SwENG, Mersus developers propose a technically challenging project to the Trinity team and then mentor them throughout the design and development of an innovative software solution. The students consistently deliver high-quality work, and we’re proud to be involved.
A digital marketing student from TUS is completing a capstone project with us. This unique project allows the student to research Mersus’s marketing needs, develop a project proposal, and then execute the plan with support from both their university lecturers and the Mersus team. This approach provides an excellent balance of academic guidance and real-world experience within a company setting.
The majority of our interns join us for a full-time, hybrid work week, integrating directly into our teams. Each intern is paired with a mentor and begins working on our in-house training program, which we’ve been continuously developing and refining. These tech internship opportunities allow interns to gain valuable experience honing their technical skills in a fast-paced and challenging environment. They also learn to work within the Agile framework, improving their communication and presentation skills, and have the opportunity to contribute to live projects.
We also welcome transition year students for week-long work experience placements or on a one-day-a-week basis throughout their transition year. These experiences provide young people with an interest in technology a glimpse into the skills they could develop if they pursue a career in the field.
