This week, our concept artist Fiona Moran delivered a fun and inspiring talk and workshop at a local school, showcasing the exciting possibilities of creative careers in the tech sector. Fiona shared insights into her role as a concept artist at Mersus, as well as her freelance work as an illustrator of  children’s books. Through her story, she demonstrated how creativity and technology intersect to shape the future of industries like VR and design.

Throughout the session, Fiona explained her creative processes for designing the various elements that make up immersive VR experiences. These include 3D assets such as furniture, robots and machines; environments, and user interface and user-experience elements. Fiona sought to actively engage and challenge the students with a hands-on design activity, which was enthusiastically embraced leading to the creation of some unique designs.

The students, many of whom own VR headsets at home, were fascinated to learn that a local company like Mersus is actively involved in developing VR technology. They asked thoughtful questions, demonstrating their curiosity and engagement with the topic.

Fiona is passionate about nurturing creativity and wanted to show the students that creative careers extend far beyond traditional art forms, into industries like technology, where innovation and imagination are highly valued.

At Mersus, we believe in fostering creativity and innovation from the ground up. Workshops like this one are part of our commitment to inspiring the next generation of tech and creative professionals

This workshop not only inspired the students but also highlighted the potential for future collaborations. In a few years, we may see some of these young talents joining Mersus through our work placement programs during their transition year or third-level education!
