At Mersus Technologies, we don’t just train interns, we mould them into the next generation of virtual innovators. One incredible example is Lea Bogovic, a rising star who, in just two agile sprints, developed a fully immersive VR kitchen hygiene training module using our cutting-edge Avatar Academy platform.
Lea is a third-year undergraduate student in Software Design and Game Development at the Technological University of the Shannon, Midlands Midwest (TUS), and is currently completing her work placement module with us.
Lea has been interested in immersive technologies from a young age. What began as raw talent quickly transformed into technical mastery, thanks to the structured training, mentorship, and hands-on experience provided by the Mersus team. The result? A standout training experience that turns the simple act of making a BLT sandwich into a hyper-realistic, hygiene-focused simulation for the professional catering industry.
Welcome to the Future of Kitchen Training
This VR hygiene training module drops users into a hyper-realistic kitchen, guiding them through BLT prep while enforcing food safety protocols. Toasting bread, slicing tomatoes, frying bacon, and assembling ingredients, all while reinforcing critical hygiene and food safety protocols.
Forget less engaging e-learning, this is next-gen training. Fully immersive and experienced through a VR headset, where every decision, movement, and action reflects real-world best practices. Learners don’t just watch, they do, in a virtual space that mirrors the physical world with stunning accuracy.
Working with Mersus has made me more confident than I was at the start…. It’s a very valuable experience both personally and technically. I see VR being in my career after university.Lea Bogovic, Student Intern, Technological University of the Shannon.
VR Hygiene Training: Where Learning Feels Instinctive
Lea focused on one of the most challenging aspects of VR development: creating natural, intuitive interactions. In VR, even minor friction can break immersion. So she implemented context-sensitive controls and visual highlights to ensure every task, from handwashing to utensil handling, felt seamless and lifelike.
Lea also fine-tuned:
- UI and UX for step-by-step guidance
- Interactive prompts that keep learners on track and immersed
- Realistic/immersive object behaviour
- Accessibility Features
The result is a training module that’s not only educational but unforgettable.

Developing the Virtual for the Future of Work
This success story isn’t just about one module; it’s about how Mersus Technologies trains and mentors future experts in Virtual Reality to meet the demands of the Physical, Digital, and Virtual future of work.
Our Avatar Academy platform provided the perfect launchpad for Lea’s creativity and problem-solving skills. Its powerful suite of built-in tools, from modular interaction templates and asset libraries to automated scene setup, streamlined the entire development process. The platform’s standardised workflow, with automation managing many of the repetitive and technical tasks, made it significantly easier to create a high-quality, immersive simulation. With this robust foundation, alongside our rigorous training, collaborative mentorship, and agile development sprints, Lea delivered an enterprise-grade VR training experience in record time.
This is how Mersus grows interns into industry-ready developers. This is how we build the future.
The Takeaway: Innovation Starts with Investment
Lea’s journey from intern to VR trailblazer is a testament to what’s possible when talent meets opportunity. At Mersus Technologies, we’re proud to shape the future by investing in it, empowering young developers to turn ideas into immersive experiences that redefine how the world learns, trains, and works.
We’re not just creating virtual reality, we’re creating the reality of tomorrow.
